Welcome to

Harry's Surprise 90th Birthday Party

Short Cut from the Orlando Airport

I just came back from Orlando and thought I'd give some more specific directions for those who want to fly into Orlando and rent a car.

Takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes.  Leaving the airport  get on 528 EAST (it's a toll road so be sure to have a couple of dollars handy).  Go on 528 East about 35 miles.  After you see signs for Brevard County, 528  will fork.  Stay to the RIGHT, following the signs for I-95, Cocoa, and Cocoa Beach.  Get off on Exit 42 which is I-95 SOUTH (Miami).  Stay on I-95 South approximately 22 miles to Exit 183 (Eau Gallie Causeway, Melbourne, Indian Harbour Beach, Hwy 518).  Go to stop light and turn LEFT.  That is Eau Gallie Boulevard.  Stay on Eau Gallie Boulevard all the way to the beach (8.1 miles, approximately 10 traffic lights.  Cross over U.S. 1, Cross over the river.)  Eau Gallie Boulevard empties onto S.R. A1A (see signs for Wal-Mart, McDonalds, Friendly's).  Veer RIGHT, heading SOUTH on A1A.  Please be careful at this intersection, as everyone goes in and out of Wal-Mart).  Quality Suites approximately 2 miles south (2 traffic lights) on the left.

IMPORTANT:  Speed limit on 518 and I-95 is 70 mph.  While you may be inclined to increase your speed (and most motorists will pass you as if you're standing still), there are two good reasons to adhere to the speed limit:  (1) it's much safer, and (2) Florida law enforcement enjoys welcoming tourists to our state with very expensive speeding fines, and they're out there!  Speed limit on Eau Gallie Boulevard, A1A is 45 mph.  Even more cops appear the closer you get to the beach, and then they're EVERYWHERE!!!

Unless you've got a terrific fare or direct flight, my suggestion is to fly into Melbourne (most airlines arrive via Atlanta).  Flights tend to be more expensive, but you'll have to rent a car, and it's a while on the road if you fly into Orlando. Once in Melbourne, you can get cab service from Melbourne to the Quality Suites.

Use this if you think it helps.

Love, Laura
