San Domingo

-From The Battle Creek (Mich.) Tribune we clip the following item:

Chas.W.Jay write on the margin of our exchange “Why in H-ll don’t you exchange?  Or have you gone up?” What a refined gentleman he is!

The aforesaid Charles W. Jay is the editor of moral, high-toned, conscientious, Republican, nigger nose-rag, published at Trenton, N.J., who has so much to say from time to time about the failure of the Democrat.  He is the same high-toned delegate what last season in Battle Creek became so uproariously and completely drunk as to require the services of friends to extricate him from the gutter and convey him to a place where they could put him in his “little bed” till sober.  But its all right—Jay is loyal!  The same paper gives us the following decidedly good thing:

San Domingo-We do not wish to be held responsible for the following “poetry.” We found it in the ashes in the original manuscript, the other day, and give it gratis:

“San Domingo,
By Jingo!”
Chandler says to Grant
With Surprise,
Grant replies,
“Don’t see why we can’t.”

“But Sumner,
By Thunder!”
Says Zachy, with a pant
“He’ll ruin
Our brewin’!”
“Let him kick!” says Grant.

Grant ruled
Sumner pulled
Both swore long and loud.
Sumner, ”Cheat!”
Grant “wheat!”
And everybody rowed.

A commission”
‘S gone a-fishin’
To Samana Bay
Let’s wait,
Hold bait,
And see what they will say.
